250YYC-PTSD Program is a supportive initiative designed to help individuals affected by post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) especially those who have experienced trauma and later faced the challenges of resettlement.

For many immigrants from East Africa including Burundi, Kenya, Congo, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda, PTSD symptoms may become more noticeable after landing in YYC (Calgary), Alberta, Canada. Moving to a new country can bring stress, isolation, language barriers, culture shock, and the pressure of rebuilding life from scratch. In that moment, old pain and memories can surface more strongly even if someone seemed “fine” for years.

Our Approach: Healing Through Art, Music, and Community

We support healing through creative expression, including:

  • Arts programs (creative skills for emotional release and self-expression)

  • Music (rhythm, sound, and voice as a coping tool)

  • Dance (body-based movement to reduce tension and reconnect with the present)

Art doesn’t erase trauma but it can help people process their feelings safely, build confidence, and regain a sense of control.

Who We Serve

The 250YYC-PTSD Program is for:

  • Individuals experiencing PTSD symptoms after trauma

  • Survivors who may find traditional support hard to access or difficult to engage with alone

  • Immigrants and newcomers in YYC who are navigating resettlement stress and mental health challenges

What Participants Can Expect

Participants can expect a welcoming, non-judgmental environment with:

  • Safe and supportive group sessions

  • Creative activities guided by trained facilitators

  • Tools and coping strategies that complement mental health care

  • Community connection so no one has to heal alone

Why This Matters

Healing is not linear. When trauma and resettlement overlap, PTSD can feel overwhelming. Our program helps participants find stability through creativity, connection, and consistent support one session at a time. If you’re interested in joining the program, supporting a participant, or learning more about upcoming sessions, contact us to get started.
